Overview:  As part of your grade for the assignment, you will need to complete a total of 4 assessments based on your experiences with the Virtual Stock Exchange (two formative, one quantitative, and one summative).

Formative assessments are similar to journal entries and are generally about a half page in length. They can be written out as a few paragraphs or broken up into sections based on the parameters below. (2x20 points)

  •  Explain your current understanding of the stock market – What it is, How it is used, Who uses it.
  •  Describe your investment strategy (if you have one) – What types of companies are you investing in, what sectors are you exposed to, what are your long term and short term goals?
  • List some of the trades that you have made thus far. What have you bought and/or sold?
  •  Evaluate your current position with regard to your goals. How successful are you?
The formative assessments will be due Tuesday, March 9th and April 1st

For the quantitative assessment, you will demonstrate your understanding of the stock market by looking up prices and analyzing charts. We will practice this before I ask you to do it. (20 points)

The summative reflection will be completed in the computer lab on our final day of the simulation. It will be comprehensive in scope and will require you to reflect on your experiences, locate and analyze market information for a variety of companies in a variety of sectors of the economy, and make predictions about the future of the markets themselves.(40 points)
